Playing with Flakies

Hey, everyone!

This mani was one of those ones I started with nothing in particular in mind. It was basically me experimenting with a few different techniques. Keep reading to find out more!

I'm still not sure how I feel about this mani. While I was wearing it I went back and forth between loving it and hating it. Sometimes nail art has that effect on me!

This was the result of me experimenting with a new flakies polish, stamper marbling, and water spotting. That's a lot of practice/new things in one mani! Maybe that's why I wasn't the biggest fan of these, I kinda felt like it was a little overwhelming or busy.

Anyway! I started with one coat of Sinful Colors Smokin' on my index and ring fingers, and one coat of Wet n Wild Black Creme on all my other fingers. For my index and middle fingers, I then used the stamper marbling technique (example video here) to marble Smokin' and Black Creme. Over that, I applied two coats of the beautiful flakies polish Allons-y Alonzo! from Colors by Llarowe. This polish is from CbL's Doctor Who Collection and I really love everything about it! The size of the flakies, the color shift, the flakies density, all of it! The flakies shift from a coppery orange, through gold, olive green, lime green, and even blue and indigo at some extreme angles. It also has a sparse scattering of indigo flakies that don't really shift but give a nice little fleck of contrast here and there.

On my thumb, middle, and pinky fingers, I sponged on a few coats of Allons-y Alonzo! with a makeup sponge, and then I used the water spotted technique and Smokin' to get some sparse wispy grey spotting. I topped all nails with Seche Vite and snapped some pics, then topped with Essie Matte About You so I could try to get as much of the shift as possible. I've found that for some reason matte top coats give almost the same shift range for flakies/multichromes as underwater pics do!

I liked that on the marbled base nails, the flakies faded into the grey a bit and really popped on the black parts. Pretty neat effect!
