Uh, I mean: Hey, everyone!
I've already done one mani inspired by Welcome to Night Vale (the most incredible podcast ever) in the past, but this one is inspired by the novel that they published a couple years ago! Keep reading to learn more!
When the novel for Welcome to Night Vale was announced, I was super excited to see how the format of the podcast (a community radio show) would translate to a book, and the authors did it incredibly well! It still had the same feel of an episode of Welcome to Night Vale, but in a much more mysterious and intriguing format. I'm really glad my mother dearest gifted it to me when it came out!
The first thing that I loved about this book, before I even started reading it, was the inside cover. FLIES! Tons of creepy little flies on top of a really pretty gradient of color! After reading the first couple chapters, it finally occurred to me that I needed to recreate this as a nail art design!
I tried to color-match as best as I could using the polishes in my collection, and I decided that the closest ones I had to the gradient in the book were Sinful Color Clementine and OPI Casino Royale. So after my base coat was dry, I sponged on a few layers of these with a makeup sponge to get a nice smooth gradient. When that was completely dry, I applied a quick coat of Wet n Wild Clear just to smooth and blend the gradient a bit more. Next, I used Wet n Wild Black Creme, Wet n Wild French White Creme, plenty of polish thinner, a detail brush, and patience to paint a few flies of various sizes. Then I finished with a generous layer of topcoat.
It's been quite a while since I freehanded something this detailed, and I absolutely loved doing it! Although my freehand skills with my non-dominant hand aren't so great, so on my right hand I just dabbed some China Glaze Whirled Away instead. It ended up looking sort of like dismembered flies, don't you think?

If any of you are looking for a real page-turner for your next book, I highly recommend this Welcome to Night Vale book! A great thing about it is that you don't really have to listen to the podcast to understand it. Just be willing to suspend your disbelief, because a lot of really strange things often happen in the small town of Night Vale! And as always... Goodnight, Night Vale. Goodnight.
