Born Pretty Store Review: Flakies Galore!

*Provided for honest review*

Hey, everyone!

Today's review post is long overdue and it's going to be quite picture heavy, so I hope you're up for a little adventure! Join me!

In this post I'll actually review two products from Born Pretty Store, since they ended up working so well together. First up are these gorgeous chameleon flakies. You can find them HERE for currently $2.29 (normally $3.59). They're available in eight different colors but I reviewed option #6.

Like a lot of nail powders on the market these days, this product works best over a no-wipe gel topcoat. So to test out these flakies I first applied a coat of regular black polish to all of my nails and waited for it to completely dry. Then I applied a coat of my no-wipe gel topcoat and cured.

I tried a couple different application techniques for this product. First I tried a silicon brush, but it made the flakies look cloudy on my nail. I also tried my fingertip to apply, but it was very messy even though it gave a nice chrome effect. The option I ended up liking the best was actually to use a makeup sponge! Not an eyeshadow applicator like many people use but like a wedge makeup sponge. It ended up making a really nice reflective shine and wasn't super messy either!

After applying enough product to get full coverage, I used a fluffy brush to remove the excess and then sealed it all with another coat of no-wipe topcoat. I absolutely love the range of colors in these flakies! The holo didn't end up showing through very much, unless I was directly under my desk light, but I still ended up really enjoying the multichrome effect this gave off!

The other product I'll be sharing today actually was underneath this mani the entire time - a peel-off gel base coat! It can be found HERE for currently $4.29 (normally $6.99). Now, on the bottle itself, it says to "follow the instruction paper for use" but I never got a set of instructions so I went with my gut on it! I made sure my nail was prepped appropriately before applying, and used one even coat on each nail before curing. Also it goes on and cures clear so that's nice to not have to worry about a color showing through my mani. I was left with a tacky layer like most gel polishes, so I wiped that off before I applied my regular black polish for the mani above.

My hope for this peel-off base coat was that it would last longer than the classic Elmer's glue base coat but still be easy to remove once I was ready to change the design on my nails. I'm not a huge fan of having to soak off my manicure every time I use chrome powder, etc, so I thought this might be a good solution. And it is!!! I was able to keep this mani on for a full week and I think an extra day with absolutely no peeling or anything! When I was ready to remove I simple used a cuticle stick to gently press under the edges and I got each nail's polish to come up in one piece, or in some cases two pieces. I really like this product and I'll definitely be using this again next time I use gel polish!
